The second part of the anime "Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online," which is part of the main "Sword Art Online" series, is scheduled to air this year after a 6-year hiatus. Character images and the return of the anime's staff have also been revealed.
"Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online" (GGO) is the second season of the anime based on the works of Kawahara Reki, creator of the "Sword Art Online" (SAO) anime series. The series is illustrated by the duo of writer Tachibana Koushi and character designer Kuroboshi Kouhaku. The latest anime takes place in "Dengeki Bunko," a "war" spinoff of the "SAO" anime series, set in the next-generation VRMMO "Gun Gale Online," where Kirito and Sinon first met.
The first season of the anime, which aired in April 2018, depicted a battle royale with heavy bullets flying between heroine Linn and her antagonist Pitohui. The detailed depiction of firearms and intense battle scenes were well-received not only by SAO fans but also by gun enthusiasts and anime fans worldwide.
While a second season of "GGO" and the return of Kusunoki Tomori as Llenn were announced for 2023, The anime has now been confirmed for release this year, 2024. Additionally, original cast members Hikasa Yoko as Pitohui, Okitsu Kazuyuki as M, and Akasaki Chinatsu as Fukajiro have been revealed, along with new character images. The three actors also left comments describing their feelings about the new anime.
